Common Issues Of Automatic Soldering Machines And Solutions

Leave a message

The online automatic soldering robot is used in the electronics manufacturing industry, mainly for processes that are difficult to achieve with production equipment such as reflow soldering and wave soldering. It is particularly suitable for soldering mixed-assembly circuit boards, heat-sensitive components, and sensitive devices in post-SMT processes. The soldering robot replaces manual soldering, improving work efficiency and enhancing soldering quality.

Structure of Online Automatic Soldering Robot

The online automatic soldering robot features full three-dimensional adjustment, eliminating the need for manual handling of the soldering iron and solder wire. It completely replaces your hands, with the arm adjustable to any desired soldering position. The equipment is composed of multiple robotic arms, a solder feeding system, a control system, and a soldering iron system.

Common Issues of Automatic Soldering Machines and Solutions

1. Cold Solder Joint Issues:

A cold solder joint generally refers to a solder point that appears acceptable during the soldering process but is actually not firmly bonded or lacks sufficient solder penetration. The main causes are insufficient dwell time of the soldering tip on the pad or a soldering temperature that is too low. Therefore, this issue can be resolved by extending the soldering tip's dwell time or increasing the temperature.

2. Bridging Issues:

In soldering, bridging generally refers to the phenomenon where two or more adjacent solder joints become unintentionally connected. This is usually caused by excessive solder feed or gaps between the pads that are too small. To address this issue, first reduce the solder amount, then check whether the soldering tip is positioned correctly, if it is not, make timely adjustments.

3. Excess Solder Buildup Issues:

Excess solder buildup generally refers to a solder joint forming into a ball shape, with the component lead not exposed. The main cause of this issue is excessive solder feeding; in this case, simply reducing the solder feed will solve the problem. Another possible cause is that the component leads are too short, resulting in them not protruding through the pad.

4. Insufficient Soldering Issues:

Insufficient soldering generally refers to the phenomenon where there is no solder on the pad during the automatic soldering process. The causes of this issue are: The soldering tip does not make contact with the solder joint - in this case, adjust the coordinates of the point so that the soldering tip touches the joint, preventing insufficient soldering; The pad surface is heavily oxidized - in such cases, solder will not wet and flow onto the pad at all.

5. Other problems:

Other problems that may occur during the soldering process of an automatic soldering machine include inaccurate solder joints and sharp tip formation.

+ Inaccurate solder joints: The solder joints are not smooth.

+ Sharp tip formation: After soldering, the solder joint is poorly shaped or has burrs and sharp tips.

The main cause is poor solder fluidity. Sometimes, it is also related to improper parameter settings. For example:

+ If the dwell time is too long, the flux will evaporate too quickly, and when the soldering iron tip is lifted, sharp tips will form.

+ If parameter adjustments cannot solve the issue, the solder wire quality should be checked.
